THE FEPS TRIP TO LEICESTERSHIRE (CHARNWOOD FOREST / BRADGATE PARK etc) from FRIDAY NOVEMBER 15 to SUNDAY NOVEMBER 17 2024 inclusive.
The biggest attraction is BRADGATE PARK and we are aiming to spend all day SATURDAY there. It offers the following features:-
RED DEER HERDS, FALLOW DEER HERDS, BIRDS (such as egrets, mallard and other ducks, as well as some less common birds are seen in the Park), water courses with small weirs, reservoir, derelict house (home of LADY JANE GREY [shortest serving monarch on the British Throne]), OLD JOHN (old folly) and WAR MEMORIAL to the ROYAL LECEISTERSHIRES at the top of the hill–with excellent views of the Park ,and beyond, ROCKS, HILLS, wide range of TREES. There is also a good value café by the reservoir with toasties, cakes, teas, coffees
The best point of entry is NEWTOWN LINFORD (on the SW corner of the Park). The Car Park costs £6:60 per day from 9:00am (pay on exit, by coins, or by cards). It is possible to use the Car Park for early users £1:00 until 9:00am—you need to leave the Park by 9:00am and then return for parking later. BRADGATE PARK is OPEN 24hours. Pedestrians have free access to the Park 24hrs a day————-excellent for night photography. The Park will offer excellent opportunities to gather images for PANELS and for AUDIO–VISUAL images.
On Friday and on Sunday we are suggesting a choice from Loughborough [ OLD BELL FACTORY FOUNDRY, and for LOUGHBOROUGH CENTRAL STATION];
SWITHLAND RESERVOIR {ducks, birds, views of the railway viaduct};
ROTHLEY STATION, for excellent views of the Steam Trains from track level,
MOUNTSORRELL—–an old town now looking tired since the loss of the local quarry. Some old buildings reflect the wealthy times. There is easy access to the River Soar and Grand Union Canal. A river walk is another photo opportunity, long brick bridge dated 1860 which used to carry freight, and is now out of use.
We aim to finish the trip by a meal at the Riverside Inn. This is an excellent place from which your journey home can be made——a couple of hundred yards from the A46 (then A6 and M1) to LONDON

Future FEPS Outings:-
Sunday 08 December 2024 – Night Photography & Markets
As this outing will officially start after dark, the ‘optional extension’ will take place before the main event during the afternoon; looking around the markets near Liverpool Street Station, Spitalfields, Truman Brewery, & Brick Lane.
Then as darkness falls, after refreshments we move on to:-
Leake Street Graffiti Tunnel , (an old favourite of FEPS) then along the South Banks for lights, reflections. Christmas Markets, and maybe a pub!
Sunday in January/February 2025 (date TBD) – Backstreets of London Pt2 – Chelsea
Starting at Sloane Square, the route basically follows the King’s Road South-west, whilst meandering in & out of the side streets on both sides. Fascinating architecture large & small, colours , mews, squares and gardens – think ‘The Chelsea Detective’ (currently showing on U+Drama & U catch-up), hopefully ending up in one of the pubs frequented by that character.
