Sunday 9 June 2024: BRENTFORD DOCKS & HIGH STREET. A day trip to Brentford, a chance to visit an area which has changed from a flourishing docks and shipping area, to a rapidly changing world of modern buildings and riverside parks.
Starting at the Gauging Docks and the small museum at the Southern end of the Grand Union Canal/navigable River Brent, exploring the weir, locks, and run-down boatyards where the Grand Union meets The Thames. Then follow the Thames past Kew Bridge for refreshments at one of the famous riverside pubs at Strand-On-The-Green.
We suggest travelling to Brentford by bus E2, which will take us to Brentford High St. (Brentford & Kew Bridge stations are on a NR Line between Clapham Junction and Staines which is not easily accessible from NW London!)
You can pick up the E2 at Greenford (via buses from Eastcote, Northwood/Hills and Ruislip) or at Ealing Broadway (via buses from Uxbridge). The entire journey should take between 1:20 -1:40.
All outing dates are subject to change due to transport strike action or adverse weather. Members can join the ‘Field End outings’ WhatsApp group to keep in touch about travel issues and meeting places.
